Tissot’s Moment at the Tour de France

Tissot PR100 Tour de France
The PR100 Tour de France Special Edition chronograph takes center stage this summer. It’s an elegant watch inspired by the world’s most iconic cycling race.

France is an immense country. So when we speak of the Tour de France, we’re referring to an equally immense stretch of road. The Tour de France, the world’s most prestigious event in the sport of cycling, is a long, grueling, and highly demanding race, marked by relentless climbs and extreme fatigue. This year, 23 teams with a total of 198 riders are competing. The physical toll is staggering, as participants must cover over three thousand kilometers across 21 racing stages. One look at their pain-stricken, exhausted faces and it becomes clear: finishing the race in the French capital at the end of July requires not only exceptional physical strength but tremendous mental resilience. Many athletes are forced to abandon the race along the way. The race currently stands six stages from completion, with approximately 950 kilometers remaining until the finish line at the Champs-Élysées in Paris. And once again this year, the official timekeeper of the Tour de France is Tissot..

The Watch

Beyond its role as official timekeeper of the Tour de France, Tissot has also created a chronograph inspired by the race. The PR100 Tour de France Special Edition is a classic stainless steel chronograph that can be comfortably worn anywhere, not just by cyclists. Its design doesn’t overtly declare its link to cycling, making it a versatile everyday companion.

The Tissot PR100 Tour de France Edition is a quartz chronograph with a 40mm stainless steel case and a thickness of 11.26mm. Its all-black dial features a fine embossed texture that subtly echoes the surface of the road, along with three sub-dials for the chronograph function. It is discreetly accented with carefully placed yellow highlights. After all, black and yellow are the official colors of the Tour de France.

The one element that unmistakably nods to the sport of cycling is the yellow central seconds hand, featuring a small bicycle motif on its counterweight.

Another reference lies hidden on the caseback, where the Tour de France logo is engraved.

The Tissot PR100 Tour de France Edition is essentially two watches in one: it comes on a stainless steel bracelet and includes an alternative perforated black leather strap with yellow stitching.
