In a gesture rich in symbolism, French President Emmanuel Macron presented Emperor Naruhito with a unique piece of haute horlogerie, created by Pequignet. The Attitude Impériale was designed specifically for the official State visit to Japan on April 2, 2026, as a diplomatic gift reflecting the long-standing relationship between the two nations.

The watch immediately stands out for its symbolism. Its dial, hand-painted in miniature by artist Philippe Jacquin-Ravot, features two intertwined branches: the oak, representing the strength of France, and the cherry blossom, symbolising Japan. A visual allegory that brings East and West together at a single point—at the very centre of time.

For the first time, Pequignet replaces its traditional Fleur de Lys with the “RF” monogram of the French Republic, visible on the movement, crown, and buckle, underlining the official and unique nature of the gift.

Inside the watch beats the Calibre Initial®, a self-winding movement offering a 65-hour power reserve, manufactured almost entirely in France within an 80-kilometre radius of Morteau. The timepiece is certified as a chronometer by the Besançon Observatory, one of the highest standards of precision in watchmaking.

The creation of the Attitude Impériale brought together leading artisans from the Franche-Comté region: from the blued steel hands to the hand-stitched alligator strap and the bespoke presentation box, every detail reinforces the character of an object that goes far beyond a watch.

More than a symbol of luxury, the Attitude Impériale serves as a cultural and diplomatic message: time becomes a bridge between two worlds.
