Clue #1: As is well known, OMEGA is the Swiss watchmaker that has long been associated with the James Bond franchise. Since 1995, Agent 007 has worn exclusively OMEGA Seamaster models on his wrist. Clue #2: Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s name has been circulating for quite some time now as one of the frontrunners to take over from Daniel Craig as the next 007 — the most iconic spy in cinematic history.
And now, out of the blue, Aaron Taylor-Johnson becomes part of the OMEGA family of brand ambassadors, standing alongside cinema legends such as George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Eddie Redmayne, Naomie Harris, and of course, Daniel Craig himself.
So, how likely is it that this is all just a coincidence? Personally, I see it as a sign of what’s to come for the British actor. My name is Bond, James Bond. Could it be?
The announcement of the new partnership took place at Omega’s headquarters in Biel, Switzerland. There, Aaron Taylor-Johnson visited Omega’s state–of–the–art manufacturing facility, observed up close how the brand’s Swiss-made movements are assembled, and gained deeper insight into the brand’s rich history by exploring the Omega museum. Having visited it myself, I can say that the museum features an entire section dedicated to the James Bond films and the Seamaster models Omega has created for agent 007.
He was accompanied by OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann, who commented: “Aaron is such a versatile actor, with a range that covers action, thriller, romance and much more. At OMEGA, we’ve always been impressed by that all-around quality, and his pioneering approach to so many roles. His passion for watches is also clear, so we’re delighted to welcome him as a new ambassador and share the excitement of our latest creations”.
The actor responded with equal enthusiasm: “I place significant value on relationships that are genuine and built on mutual passion and respect. It’s a tremendous honor to be selected as a Brand Ambassador for Omega.»
But does he really know his watches, or is this just another marketing match?
“My interest in watches first began with my dad who introduced me to Omega, if you can believe it. He was working class and saved his earnings to purchase an Omega watch”, he revealed.
During his visit to Switzerland, Aaron wore the Speedmaster “First OMEGA in Space” on a brown leather strap (ref. 310.32.40.50.06.002). Released in 2024, the timepiece pays tribute to the brand’s space legacy, with a vintage aesthetic that aligns perfectly with OMEGA’s heritage and elegance.
In tabloid circles, the first thing people mention about Aaron Taylor-Johnson is his marriage to director Sam Taylor–Johnson, who is 23 years his senior. He’s currently 34, she’s 57. The two met in 2009 on the set of Nowhere Boy, a biopic about John Lennon’s youth. Sam was directing, and Aaron Perry Johnson (as he was then known) played the lead — a performance that earned him public acclaim.
But his career didn’t start there. Aaron began acting at the age of six, and made his West End debut at just nine years old, playing a role in Macbeth in 1999.
From there, he steadily built a respectable career with numerous prominent roles in film. As a teen, he appeared in: Shanghai Knights (2003) as young Charlie Chaplin, alongside Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. The Illusionist (2006) with Edward Norton, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008).
In his adult career, he has appeared in numerous films, including Kick-Ass (2010), Anna Karenina (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), The Wall (2017), Kraven (2024), Nosferatu (2024), among others. In 2016, he won both a Golden Globe and a BAFTAfor his performance as a serial killer in Nocturnal Animals. In the near future, he is set to star in 28 Years Later, Fuze και Blood on Snow. And now that he has taken on the role of Omega’s newest ambassador, who knows? He just might end up starring in the next James Bond. Time will tell.
