BREITLING Superocean Heritage – A Collection Made for Summer

Inspired by the original Breitling Superocean from 1957 but designed for the modern era, the updated Superocean Heritage models have arrived just in time for summer.

On Wednesday, June 11, I happened to be in Syntagma for an errand. Since I had some time to spare, I took a stroll down Voukourestiou Street — the go-to destination for any watch lover, as it’s home to most of the exclusive boutiques and specialized stores of top watchmaking maisons. As I passed by the Breitling boutique, I stepped in to greet the exceptionally friendly staff. Luckily, I arrived just in time for the official launch of the revamped Superocean Heritage diving collection. Breitling hadn’t focused on this line since 2017.

I caught the ladies of the Breitling Athens Squad carefully arranging the brand-new models in the dedicated showcase while styling the boutique’s entrance to match. The theme? Aloha! The new collection pays tribute to Hawaiian surf culture. Hence the luxury wooden surfboard and tropical plants at the entrance, and the images of expert surfers riding Hawaiian waves showcased in the main display window.
But beyond the refreshing summer backdrop, what truly caught my eye — of course — were the new watches. And there were plenty. Where to begin?

Breitling Superocean Heritage
Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 44 & 42

There are many automatic options in the Superocean Heritage line, and all are equally beautiful. The boldest are the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 44 and 42 models, with case diameters of 44mm and 42mm, respectively. Available in several variations made of stainless steel or a mix of stainless steel and 18K red gold — the latter certified by the Swiss Better Gold Association — these models are substantial yet refined. The 44mm watches measure 12.17mm in thickness, and the 42mm versions slightly thinner at 12.03mm.

All cases are water-resistant to 200 meters, feature screw-down crowns, and are sealed with sapphire crystals on both sides. The transparent caseback reveals the brand-new Breitling Manufacture Caliber B31, offering 78 hours of power reserve and COSC chronometer certification.

The unidirectional diving bezels — in stainless steel or 18K red gold — feature a notched edge for better grip and are adorned with a ceramic insert matching the dial color: black, green, or blue. These watches pair with either a color-matching rubber strap with a folding clasp or a stainless steel Ocean Classic bracelet with a butterfly clasp.
Prices: from €6,100 (steel + rubber strap), €6,400 (steel + bracelet)

For those with slimmer wrists or a preference for smaller watches, the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 offers all the same features in a 40mm case with a thickness of 11.73mm.

These are available only with black or green dials (and matching straps), making them a versatile unisex option.
Prices: €6,100 (rubber strap), €6,400 (bracelet)

Superocean Heritage B01 Chronograph 42

No collection would be complete without chronographs — and these are impressive. Powered by the high-performance Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, these automatic chronographs feature a column wheel, vertical clutch, 70-hour power reserve, and COSC certification.

As you may have gathered from its name, the case diameter is 42mm, with a thickness of 14.55mm, and it is water-resistant to a depth of 200 meters. There are options available in stainless steel or stainless steel combined with 18K red gold, featuring blue, green, or black dials with matching ceramic bezel inserts.

Just like the automatic models, the chronographs can be paired either with the elegant stainless steel Ocean Classic bracelet or with rubber straps in blue, green, or black.
Prices: €8,900 (steel with rubber strap), €9,200 (steel with bracelet), €9,900 (steel-gold with rubber strap), and €10,200 (steel-gold with bracelet).

Superocean Heritage Automatic 36

Breitling’s female audience won’t be disappointed. Two 36mm versions of the Superocean Heritage Automatic are now available.

My personal favorite is the pistachio-green model with a matching strap, though the blue version is just as impressive and slightly more timeless.

These models house the Breitling Caliber 10 automatic movement with 42 hours of power reserve and COSC certification.

Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater Limited Edition

Surfing enthusiasts and Breitling fans alike are surely familiar with Kelly Slater, the world surfing champion who, over three decades, claimed 11 world titles and 56 tournament victories.

Now that he is retiring from professional competition, Breitling has created a limited-edition timepiece in his honor: the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater, featuring a unique dial inspired by Hawaiian culture. After all, Hawaii is now Slater’s home.
