This isn’t just another tourbillon. The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon is currently the thinnest tourbillon wristwatch in the world, measuring just 1.85 mm thick! Released in an extremely limited edition of only 20 pieces, it joins the legendary Octo Finissimo family of ultra-thin watches. The new record was officially announced on April 1st, the opening day of Watches & Wonders 2025. It may have sounded like an April Fools’ joke — but it was anything but.
Τhe journey began in 2014
Before diving into the marvel that is the Ultra Tourbillon, it’s worth revisiting Bulgari’s recent past. Since its invention by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the 18th century, the tourbillon has represented the pinnacle of horological precision and mastery. It is no coincidence that Bulgari’s ultra-thin journey began with a tourbillon — the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon of 2014, which, at just 1.95 mm thick, became the thinnest flying tourbillon in the world at the time. That year marked the beginning of a story that would lead Bulgari to ten world records and more than 60 international awards in ultra-thin watchmaking — including the most prestigious prize in the field, the “Aiguille d’Or” at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Today, the Octo Finissimo remains the most awarded watch and collection of the 21st century.

The BULGARI Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon features a 40 mm titanium case and is powered by the manually wound BVF 900 calibre — a tourbillon movement that beats at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and delivers 42 hours of power reserve.
The case, dial, and lugs are all crafted from titanium, with a bead-blasted matte finish achieved through micro-bead sandblasting — a signature texture found throughout the titanium Octo Finissimo series.

Putting It All on Display
What makes this watch even more unique is its skeletonized movement architecture. With the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, Bulgari has pushed the boundaries of skeletonisation, maximising light diffusion throughout the mechanism. This approach, combined with modern decorative techniques — like the polished bevel of the bezel, the rhodium-plated tourbillon components, and the sunburst satin-finished bridge — discreetly elevates the watch’s mechanical artistry.
Each skeletonised component must strike a perfect balance between function and beauty, between durability, reliability, and visual harmony. This makes the margin for error exceptionally narrow. The exposed nature of such a movement demands absolute perfection in design, execution, and finishing.

The mainplate is made of tungsten carbide, strong enough to support a movement this thin and complex. To achieve this feat, Bulgari’s R&D teams developed and patented eight technical innovations, including:
· A visible differential system,
· Integrated design of the middle case and mainplate,
· A dual-material caseback,
· A new method for attaching the crystal,
· A newly engineered barrel,
· A unique oscillator unit,
· Modular construction techniques, and
· A fully integrated bracelet design.

Two flat circular stainless-steel crowns protrude slightly from either side of the case. On the left, at 8 o’clock, is the winding crown; on the right, at 3 o’clock, the time-setting crown. In the upper-right sub-dial, the rhodium-plated hour and minute hands stand out against the sandblasted grey anthracite DLC-coated surface, ensuring legibility and visual contrast.

Completing the design is the fully integrated titanium bracelet, with the same matte finish as the case. Together with the ultra-thin folding clasp, it measures only 1.5 mm thick — a technical masterpiece in itself.

So what comes next? With this latest record-breaking release, Bulgari has once again redefined what is possible in the world of ultra-thin watchmaking. Where the brand will go next remains a tantalizing mystery — but the watch world will be watching closely.
