Hublot has been supporting the non-profit organization SORAI since 2019. SORAI is an initiative launched by former international cricket player and Hublot ambassador Kevin Pietersen, aiming to protect rhinos that are threatened with extinction due to poaching.

The rhinoceros, one of the planet’s five largest land animals and the second largest mammal after the elephant, has seen its population drop by 90% over the past decade. The numbers are alarming: on average, three wild rhinos are killed every day. As a result, fewer than 30,000 rhinos remain in the world today. And although the trade in rhino horn has been internationally banned since 1977 by CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), poachers continue to hunt and kill rhinos for their horns. Why? Because their value per kilogram is significantly higher than that of gold.

Proceeds from the sale of the HUBLOT Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon SORAI will directly support SORAI’s efforts, including equipping helicopters with cameras, raising awareness among schoolchildren about the consequences of poaching, and strengthening the rangers patrolling the ground. These strategic efforts are focused where they are needed most—in South Africa. The country is home to over 80% of the world’s remaining rhino population, and poachers are ravaging Kruger National Park, which is home to the largest population of wild white rhinos left on Earth.
