In 2023, Vacheron Constantin surpassed the one-billion-Swiss-franc sales milestone for the first time in its history. A key contributor to this achievement was the strong performance of the Overseas collection. As early as the late 19th century, Vacheron Constantin was employing impressive technical methods to protect its watches from moisture and magnetic fields. In the 1970s, as the concept of luxury stainless steel sports watches began to mature, the brand launched the 222 to commemorate its 222nd anniversary. It featured a screw-down case and bezel and was water-resistant to a depth of 120 meters. That model would serve as the foundation for the Overseas, introduced years later—a bold sports watch with a distinctive bezel. The engraved image of Amerigo Vespucci’s three-masted ship on the caseback evoked a spirit of adventure and exploration. Since then, the Overseas has evolved, gradually acquiring its now-iconic aesthetic codes—like the metal bracelet designed in a pattern inspired by the Maltese Cross, Vacheron Constantin’s emblem.
In 2016, the latest generation of the Overseas received the Geneva Seal, raising the bar for both quality and precision. The most recent version of the Overseas chronograph was released in 2023 with a silver-white dial and three black subdials, evoking the face of a panda. Like all modern Overseas models, it offers a “three-in-one” versatility thanks to its interchangeable strap system: each watch comes with three options—steel bracelet, leather strap, and rubber strap—that can be swapped in seconds without the need for any tools.
