Even if you don’t travel frequently to other countries, even if you have no practical reason to know the time in another time zone—though we all have a friend or relative on the other side of the globe—a world time watch always exerts a certain charm on most of us. Because this complication always adds interesting elements to the dial, partly because it’s a very useful function, and partly because it elevates the aesthetics significantly. Especially when it displays part or all of the globe, just like the new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer does.
It’s not the first time Omega has released world time watches. Since 2017, the current Seamaster Aqua Terra collection has included many options, in steel, SednaΤΜ gold, or titanium, with beautiful dials in various color combinations. And all are water-resistant up to a depth of 150 meters.

Planet Ocean
The new Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer , however, has a major distinction. It belongs to Omega’s dive-ready Seamaster Planet Ocean family. This means it meets the specifications of a professional-grade tool, capable of diving safely down to 600 metres!

Omega has equipped two models, based on the Planet Ocean Deep Black, with a Worldtimer movement. Each has a 45.5 mm diameter and a case made of black ceramic [ZrO2]. The same material is used for the black ceramic bezel with its raised dive scale. What instantly grabs your attention, of course, is the spectacular world time display: at the center of the dial is a depiction of the globe as seen from above the North Pole, with continents and color tones laser-engraved on a Grade 5 titanium surface.

Surrounding the embossed map is a 24-hour scale divided into two semicircles, one black and one white, representing night and day. This is followed by a wide black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) ring, laser-etched with a honeycomb pattern, where the hour markers are positioned. On the outermost ring of the dial, two concentric bands display the names of cities corresponding to the planet’s major time zones.

There are two watches: the first features turquoise accents, while the second leans towards shades of black and grey. Both come with black textured rubber straps that have a fabric-like finish.

Time underwater
Generally, I can’t recall many diver’s watches out there that also feature a world time functionThe only one that comes to mind is the Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer by Mido, Omega’s sister company, since both belong to the Swatch Group. That’s because designers usually avoid cluttering dive watch dials with too many elements, aiming for maximum underwater clarity. But when you examine the dials of Omega’s two new Worldtimers, you quickly realize how carefully they’ve addressed this issue. In the darkness of the deep, everything fades —except for the large, luminous hour markers, hands, and the white dot on the dive bezel, all of which glow thanks to Super-LumiNova.

It would be remiss not to mention the movement housed inside the case. It’s the automatic Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Let me remind you that the words “Master Chronometer” are not just for show. They mean the watch is METAS-certified—so it has passed tests far more rigorous than COSC’s—and it’s resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. Very few watches can boast such performance. It also offers 60 hours of power reserve.
My conclusion? The two new OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimers are a harmonious blend of cutting-edge technology, Swiss reliability, avant-garde design, everyday functionality, and exceptional durability. And on top of all that, they’re stunningly beautiful. What more could anyone ask for?
