OMEGA x SWATCH MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold

MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase
Snoopy in new adventures. This is the new Speedmaster MoonSwatch made of bioceramic and Moonshine Gold. But be careful! It will be sold at select locations around the world for only one day: on August 9th.

I love it. Just like I love all the previous Omega and Swatch models featuring everyone’s favorite dog, Snoopy. But this particular watch comes with a quirk. It will be available at selected Swatch stores and locations worldwide, but only for a single day. The ninth of the month. The occasion? August’s Full Moon, that late summer moon so often praised by poets and folk singers, which never fails to enchant us, no matter where we are. Only then will one be able to purchase the new MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold. And strictly one piece per customer.

Of course, its release date is not the only special thing about this watch. First of all, it features the most beloved comic dog, Snoopy, who has a long-standing relationship with space and Omega. Secondly, it includes Swatch’s innovative Earthphase display: how Earth appears from the Moon. This is combined with a double Moonphase display, made of none other than Moonshine™ Gold, Omega’s exclusive gold alloy.

Just like the Moonphases, the Earthphases follow a 29.5-day cycle, but in reverse. When there’s a Full Moon on Earth, the Moon sees a New Earth, and when there’s a New Moon here, the Earth appears full from the Moon. That’s why Earth on the Earthphase indicator rotates counterclockwise, while the Moon on the Moonphase display moves clockwise.

Ι Beat Everybody

Beneath the window at the top left of the dial, Snoopy is pictured seated on the Moon’s surface with his loyal friend Woodstock. Both wear astronaut helmets and gaze at the blue planet from afar. In the dark, not only the Earth, the hands, and the hour markers glow, but also the phrase: “I beat everybody,” a playful reminder that Omega’s Speedmaster Moonwatch was the first watch worn on the Moon.

In a symmetrical position, on the right side of the dial, the double Moonphase display features two shiny full moons coated in Moonshine Gold. You may wonder why one of the moons is caught in a fishing net. That’s because the August moon is also called the Sturgeon Moon, named after the famous fish whose roe gives us caviar. The second moon bears the footprints of Snoopy and his winged companion.

The Starry Sky

A standout detail: the inner parts of both “space” indicators, the hands, the subdial ring, and the chapter ring with the minute and hour gradations are all in dark blue with white and blue specks that resemble a starry night sky. The same deep and moody shade of blue colors the case. It’s made of bioceramic, like all models in the Bioceramic MoonSwatch line. For those unfamiliar, bioceramic is a Swatch-patented material made of two-thirds ceramic and one-third bio-sourced material derived from castor oil.

On the caseback, the battery cover features Earth. The Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold comes with a blue VELCRO® rubber strap and an easy-swap system.

In Greece, the OMEGA x SWATCH MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold will be available exclusively at the Athens Swatch boutique (5 Ermou Street, Syntagma), but you can also find it in Mykonos, on the Rolling Planet car at Alefkandra (Little Venice).
