TAOS – Art in the Service of Watchmaking

A new watchmaking brand has emerged from a renowned artistic atelier in Geneva. TAOS creates only a few watches each year, but they are exceptional timepieces with dials that are true works of art. And each one is unique!

TAOS is a new watchmaking brand founded by the prestigious dial-making workshop Atelier Olivier Vaucher, in collaboration with watchmaker Olivier Gaud. Its watches are genuine works of art, each one a unique creation, with dials crafted using traditional techniques. For its debut, TAOS has produced seven stunning watches, each more beautiful than the last, featuring 38 mm x 10 mm cases in rose or white gold. At least 200 hours of work are required to create each intricate dial. All models are powered by the same movement, the automatic VOP318, which offers a power reserve of three days.

Métiers d’art

While the name Atelier Olivier Vaucher may not be widely known, those of us who are more familiar with the world of watchmaking know it as one of Switzerland’s leading dial manufacturers. Despite collaborations with some of the most prestigious watchmaking houses, the atelier remains discreet about its work. Founded in 1978 in Geneva by Olivier and Dominique Vaucher, it now operates with a team of forty collaborators, mastering over fifteen traditional artistic techniques and crafts, including enameling, miniature painting, hand engraving, gem setting, and more.

TAOS represents a unique approach to watchmaking. The meeting of Olivier and Dominique Vaucher with Olivier Gaud brought to life their shared vision: to harness the atelier’s knowledge and artisanal skills to create a limited number of high artistic value timepieces each year.

The name TAOS was inspired by the small, artistic community of the same name in New Mexico. However, there’s another interpretation we particularly love: it is quite possible that the brand’s name derives from the Greek word taôs—which means peacock!
