I’ve mastered the offside rule years ago, I’m not entirely clueless. Still, I must admit football isn’t exactly my favorite sport. That said, I’ve become a bit of a soccer mom, thanks to my football-obsessed 12-year-old. You know, like the American term for moms who ferry their kids to soccer practice and use the downtime to trade recipes or manicure tips with fellow… survivors. Thankfully, I haven’t come across anything like that in Greek youth football. On the contrary, my small but steady exposure to the sport has actually made me appreciate it more and more. And of course, the “education” doesn’t stop at the pitch: once the PlayStation is fired up and the latest FIFA is on, it’s a full-blown man cave at home, with father and son debating who’s the best striker, who scores the flashiest overhead kicks, and so on. As for Erling Haaland? Oh, I know him well. His name’s been a regular feature in our household these past few years. In fact, I wrote an article a year ago about the beginning of his partnership with Swiss watchmaker Breitling. Back then, the blond Norwegian posed alongside our very own Giannis Antetokounmpo for the Navitimer 41 campaign. Now, we’re into the second chapter of that collaboration, and it revolves around two brand-new Chronomat models. But let’s start at the beginning.

A star for the star
What sets these new watches apart is their meteorite dials. As Breitling CEO Georges Kern wisely put it, “Erling plays like he’s from another planet, so when we were discussing materials, a meteorite dial seemed like the perfect fit. This is a watch as bold and unique as he is.” Indeed, the international football star was actively involved in the creation of the Erling Haaland Signature Chronomat, from the design stage to the selection of materials for the dial and case. “I wanted something one-of-a-kind,” Haaland says. “The Chronomat just clicked with me. It’s clean, all-metal or paired with a rubber strap that really lets the dial shine. Using meteorite means every single piece is different. You’ll never see the same watch on someone else’s wrist.”

A Rock with a Cosmic Past
This marks the first time Breitling has used meteorite in its watches. Specifically, the brand selected Muonionalusta meteorite, one of the oldest materials ever discovered on Earth. It originated from the core of a star that died 4.5 billion years ago and landed on Earth about a million years ago. Composed primarily of iron and nickel, it also contains trace elements like cobalt and rare silicate minerals not found in terrestrial rocks. Some fragments even show signs of stishovite, a high-density form of silicon dioxide that forms during violent cosmic collisions. The Muonionalusta fragments lie scattered among the glacial moraine fields of northern Sweden and are extremely difficult to locate. Once extracted, the meteorite is cut and treated to reveal its famed crystalline pattern – the Widmanstätten structure – which manifests as irregular, flowing lines unique to each fragment. So, when it’s sliced into thin discs to be used as dials, no two are ever alike, making each timepiece entirely unique.

Two, and one more
Together, Breitling and Erling Haaland created two limited-edition Erling Haaland Signature Chronomat models: the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 in stainless steel and platinum, produced in 500 numbered pieces, and the Chronomat B01 42 chronograph in 18K red gold, limited to just 250 units. They also developed a third, ultra-exclusive version made in only five pieces, reserved for Haaland himself and his inner circle.
The Chronomat made its debut back in 1983, marking Breitling’s return to mechanical chronographs at a time when quartz watches ruled the market. Rugged and bold, the original was inspired by a timepiece designed for the Italian Air Force’s Frecce Tricolori aerobatic squadron. It featured a rotating bezel with four rider tabs and the instantly recognizable Rouleaux bracelet. Both Haaland Signature editions proudly carry forward this tradition of engineering precision and aesthetic identity.

BREITLING Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 Erling Haaland
This 40mm case is crafted from stainless steel with a platinum bezel. The meteorite dial features a red gold GMT hand, and the central seconds hand is counterbalanced by Haaland’s initials. The closed caseback is engraved with Haaland’s iconic goal celebration pose, along with the phrases “ONE OF 500” and “ERLING HAALAND 9” around the edge. The watch comes on either the signature Rouleaux steel bracelet or a black rubber strap styled after the same design.
Prices: €9,450 (strap) and €9,850 (bracelet)

BREITLING Chronomat B01 42 Erling Haaland
A chronograph as precious as it is striking, with an 18K red gold case and meteorite dial paired with black subdials and red gold accents. Just like the previous model, the central chronograph seconds hand carries Haaland’s initials. It’s powered by the top-tier Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, an automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve, visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback. Along its rim, you’ll find the engravings “ONE OF 250” and “ERLING HAALAND 9”, a nod to Haaland’s jersey number. The watch is offered with either a black Rouleaux-style rubber strap or an 18K red gold Rouleaux bracelet.
Prices: €45,500 (bracelet) and €26,000 (strap)

The third model – the ultra-rare “ONE OF 5” – was never intended for public release. It’s a chronograph once again crafted in 18K red gold with a meteorite dial. The transparent caseback reveals the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, and it features an engraving of Haaland in his signature lotus-pose goal celebration.

All models are water-resistant to 200 meters and come in a luxurious wooden box, accompanied by a handwritten thank-you note from Erling Haaland himself.
