Three Rolex watches and οne Audemars Piguet at Roland Garros 2025

Roland Garros 2025
What did the men’s and women’s singles finalists choose to wear on their wrists during the trophy ceremony of this year’s French Open? Read on…

With Roland Garros 2025 taking center stage, we tennis fans — myself included — end up glued to our screens, especially during the Grand Slams. I’ve been watching these tournaments since I was a kid, back when Björn Borg battled it out with John McEnroe, Mats Wilander went head-to-head with Boris Becker, or Chris Evert Lloyd faced Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf in nail-biting finals. Yes, I’m giving away my age here. But the excitement, the drama, the tension right up to the last point — that never changes.

In the modern era, new legends have emerged: Federer, Nadal, Serena Williams… But unlike the purer, simpler tennis of the ’70s and ’80s, today’s game is also shaped by sponsorships, luxury partnerships, and million-dollar endorsements. A tennis star today might earn more from high-end fashion, car brands, sportswear deals, and of course, watch companies, than from the sport itself.
Which brings us to the watches. Over the past few years, it’s become almost expected that champions — and even runners-up — show up on the winner’s podium sporting a piece of haute horlogerie on their wrist. A statement, a brand moment, sometimes a personal favorite, but often one of the brand’s latest novelties, freshly pushed to the spotlight.

For us mere mortals, these watches are often out of reach — either because of their astronomical price or their rarity. Think of those ultra-light and ultra-pricey Richard Mille pieces made especially for Rafael Nadal. But even if we can’t own them, there’s nothing stopping us from admiring them, dreaming about them.
So, what did this year’s four finalists — from the men’s and women’s singles draws — wear at Roland Garros? Three Rolex and one Audemars Piguet. Let’s start with the ladies.

Roland Garros 2025
Coco Gauff – ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Red Grape

The 2025 French Open champion Coco Gauff clearly loves this understated Rolex Oyster Perpetual with a dial in a unique “Red Grape” hue. We’ve seen her wearing it on multiple occasions, so it seems like a personal pick rather than a promo piece. The ever-likeable American is part of the Rolex Testimonee family. This particular Red Grape dial model is no longer in production — it’s only available on the secondary market. That said, the Oyster Perpetual collection still offers a wide range of colorful dials, in both vibrant and pastel shades.

Aryna Sabalenka – AUDEMARS PIGUET Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm

Belarusian powerhouse Aryna Sabalenka may have left the court in tears after losing the women’s singles final, but her time will surely come. On her wrist? One of the most striking watches of the moment: a Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm with a dial made from genuine turquoise stone, courtesy of Audemars Piguet. It’s a standout piece, and Sabalenka has been a proud ambassador of the brand since 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz – ROLEX Cosmograph Daytona

And what was the men’s champion wearing? None other than a brand-new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. I had the chance to see it — and try it on — during Watches & Wonders in Geneva this April, and honestly, it was hard to take it off. Crafted in yellow gold, with black subdials and a black ceramic bezel featuring a tachymeter scale, the real magic is in the dial — a turquoise lacquer, perfect for Mediterranean summers. Simply stunning.

Jannik Sinner – ROLEX Cosmograph Daytona

The runner-up, Italian star Jannik Sinner, also chose a Daytona for his off-court look at Roland Garros. His version, however, was a touch more classic: an Everose gold case paired with a champagne-colored dial. Both Sinner and Alcaraz are part of the Rolex ambassador family, so it was no surprise to see them wearing timepieces from the brand. The fact that they both chose Daytonas? Just a stylish coincidence.
