URWERK UR-150 Scorpion “Titan”

Urwerk UR-150 Scorpion
Unconventional and spectacular, the new UR-150 Scorpion “Titan” by Urwerk has nothing in common with traditional ways of telling time. Its avant-garde “wandering hours” display breaks every rule — and that’s exactly the point.

One of the things I’ve always loved about Urwerk is the element of surprise. That moment of visual decoding you go through when first looking at one of their creations — it draws you in. All of their watches, without exception, have that magnetism. Maybe it’s the thrill of the unfamiliar, the pull of the unknown, that feeling of discovery that keeps you looking. The brilliant duo behind Urwerk, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, have spent decades redefining what a watch can be — often in ways that feel almost extraterrestrial. Since founding the brand in 1997, they’ve delivered radically original designs, the most famous being their satellite hour display, first introduced in 2003. The latest iteration of that concept is the UR-150 Scorpion.

Urwerk UR-150 Skorpion

As the name suggests, this watch draws inspiration from the scorpion — a creature that instantly commands awe. Its retrograde minute hand evokes the sting of a tail: at the end of each hour, it snaps back with lightning speed. The hand travels across a 240-degree arc and resets in just 1/100th of a second, while the trio of hour satellites rotates into position.

Powering the UR-150 Scorpion is the automatic UR-50.01 calibre, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a 43-hour power reserve. The satellite hour display is made of aluminum and mounted on a brass carousel, with fine hand-finishing throughout.

The brand’s signature “wandering hours” glow in the dark thanks to Super-LumiNova, making them clearly legible even at night. Meanwhile, two miniature turbines regulate the automatic winding system, boosting energy efficiency and providing anti-shock protection.

The UR-150 Scorpion’s case measures 42.49 x 52.31 mm, with a thickness of 14.79 mm and a curved profile that hugs the wrist comfortably.

The watch is offered in two versions: the Titan edition, made of titanium and steel, and the Dark edition, which features the same materials treated with a dark grey PVD finish. Personally, I lean toward the Titan, but the Dark is just as striking in its own way.
